1980s

  • Different therapies and personal development approaches come to influence the Community such as Co-counselling, Rebirthing, The Game of Transformation etc.
  • Plans for a health centre at Station House in Findhorn Village envisioned by Erica Cook and a group of practitionersFindhorn Bay Apothecary postcard 1987
  • Findhorn Foundation (FF) Health and Wholeness departments in both Cluny and the Park
  • In the Park an Apothecary provides natural remedies. It eventually becomes one of the first independent businesses, located in the building of the toilet block where Eileen went to meditate in the early years and treatment rooms and a library in a caravan, Merlin, next door.Cluny has a treatment room, the Bodhi Room, and a small apothecary in the Annex.

1990 – 1999

1999 – 2015

  • Community Helpline staffed by the volunteers of the People Care Circle
  • Hands-on care in community delivered by Community members working as paid carers. At one time there are 7 parallel teams with 15 or more carers on the payroll and a large number of volunteers.
  • Direct Payments Caledonia, later SDS (self-directed support) funding through the local council becomes available to support care at home
  • Findhorn Care Workers – an informal network of carers
  • Healthworks – Holistic Health Care Ltd. charity offers health education through a library, health fairs and public presentations and provides financial assistance for alternative and complementary treatments through the Access to Health Fund (assisting many individuals with a total of £80,000 2003 – 2024)
  • Special Care Awareness now held by Findhorn Foundation
  • Community Care Circle (CCC) becomes NFA Community Care Circle in 2009 with a dedicated councillor as liaison. Later renamed to Caring Community Circle (because community care becomes an official term in Scotland for care provision).
  • CCC support of fundraising campaign to raise funds for affordable housing, esp. Community Care Flats
  • Curriculum for the 4th Age 2011-2018. Workshops for elderberries to look at Will, Power of Attorney, advance directives, suitable accommodation etc. Film club to discuss end-of-life matters.

2015 – 2020

  • CCC group recognises the need for ‘succession planning’ and sustainability
  • Grease and Grit in Community Care project
  • Evoneers’ Journey 2016– creating a plan for a care agency with a difference
  • NFA GatherIn Awards 2017 (CCC), 2018 (People Care Circles), 2019 (Caring Community Coordinator post)
  • CCC becomes a division of Park Ecovillage Trust – Community Care Fund (formerly Elders Fund) transferred to Park Ecovillage Trust from Healthworks Holistic Health Care Ltd
  • Life Changes Trust dementia funding matched by Community fundraising allows the employment of a Caring Community Coordinator (CC Coordinator)
  • Evolution of a Caring Community report written 2020
  • Equipment available from CCC to support care at home becomes ever more substantial (hospital bed, wheel chairs, walking aids and much more)Lift Share leaflet

  • Moray Community Awards given to two CCC core members 2017 and 2018 thus recognising CCC’s community work as important contribution to Moray as a whole
  • Mental Health Strategy Group – cross organisational collaboration
  • Curriculum for Health and Wellbeing in Community (in cooperation with Findhorn Foundation Internal Training) delivers trainings and workshops in collaboration with Moray Wellbeing Hub

2020 – 2023

  • Laura Shreenan starts work as CCCoordinator 1st March 2020
  • Lockdown initiatives in The Park
  • Covid Action Group (for policies, Health&Safety, organisational support)
  • Volunteer Action Group (for neighbourhood support)
  • Town Criers (for information and light relief)
  • Artists Hunts (for mental and social health with safe distancing)
  • Healthworks – closes for several months in 2020, then reduced operations. Significant number of practitioners retire, requiring a restructuring.
  • Sky Jacqui Trust promises some funding for 3 years from 2023 on condition the community steps up to match support – NFA promises a set amount for 3 years and a drive to get individual community donor support commences, which is working well, and is ongoing.
  • CCC Taskforce of volunteers provides coordinated neighbourly support
  • Various peer groups are starting up (including Ageing Gratefully, PoA/Executor support, Conversations on Death, Insomnia, Anxiety, Tinnitus)

from January 2024

  • CCC funds an initial 3-month part-time admin, publicity, fundraising, and management support role with a view to securing funding to extend the role
  • CCC Hoose (in the Family House at The Park) set up with support from Newbold Legacy Trust,  providing a base of operations, CCC community events and meeting room, and equipment storage
