These stories have been passed on over the years; especially around the fire in the Lounge of a winter’s evening, when it’s just the Cluny Family in the building, and we sometimes have such ‘cosy’ evenings.
Cluny Hill was built in 1863-65 and expanded in 1896/7 and 1905-07. It served as a hydropathic establishment. Stan Stanfield writes in his 'A Tour of Cluny': The hotel was known as the Cluny Hydro.

From the very first conference, at the end of our Coach Party summer season, in October 1976, Peter could hardly wait to bring conferencees over from the Park after the evening session in the Universal Hall to join with those staying in Cluny for camaraderie time in the Cluny Bar.
