I lived at Cluny from 1993 to 2007. In that time I developed a passion to work with stone in my spare time. It started with a first drystone wall in 1996. With the Love Bench in 1998 I began to shape stone and got into stone carving, ending with the feet ‘of a buried giant’. Many meters of stonewalls, and stone steps helped shape the landscape in Cluny Garden. At times I became quite obsessed with this work – yet always it was a labour of love, a gift to Cluny as I loved living there.
I thank Alex Wright of Flying Mirrors for making this film with me in 2023.
This really is my community. I have some great friends here and feel that with the challenges facing the world, this is a place where we can experiment together for the good of all.
How wonderful to hear your story Patrick! Being a “Parky” 1990-1995 then fleeing to Erraid, 1995-2000, I wasn’t very much aware of your skill and passion for stone. It’s great you made this archive before Cluny changes hands, which is a sad moment for many, but a gift for whoever takes it on. Blessings and thank you!!
Great demonstration of what one man can do. Tks for the tour, Patrick.
