(Extracts from Community, College, University: Towards a University of Light, Early Foundation Study Paper.)

The teaching of the University has to be perceived in the wholeness of the activities carried out by the centre. The programme is thus a balance between many activities which draw upon physical, emotional, mental and spiritual experiences. The individual, in learning how to give, learns how to balance his own being to live under the guidance of the God within himself.

The student moves through certain cycles which involve different aspects of his being. The teaching or educational experiences of this university of light is a blend of mental clarifications of the New Age vision and of practically applying that which has been revealed in everyday activity. It is a blend of work and discussion, of meditation and service, of joy and laughter, of periods of expansion and moments of crisis. It can be painful if the student resists the process that is taking place. This is why a clear vision of what the Foundation offers and requires of its members can help an individual who thinks of joining the university to make a clear decision.

As this vision of what the Findhorn Foundation has to offer to the world clarifies itself, a new structure is evolving. The conditions of entry, of joining the centre of light have accordingly changed. This is no longer a community where people can come and live, but a university of light where training for planetary service is offered….

The first year, which will be experimental, in nature will give the opportunity to those who take part in it to co-create their own programme, though a definite structure will be present in order to guide and channel their energies and consciousnesses. It is understood that at the end of a one year programme, opportunity is given to the student to carry out the New Age work either as a staff member of the university or to join other light centres over the world, or to specialise in a particular field of service which will have revealed itself in the course of time spent here.

We thus come to a vision of a light centre whose function is twofold: first to provide a force of inspiration through the demonstration in practical terms of the New Age vision, second to train souls for the field of world service and thus release into the world this brotherhood of consciousness which knows itself to be at one with the spheres of limitless love and light. As each student enters the realisation of his expanded soul consciousness, he carries within him the inspiration and the energy that will draw out the divine qualities of those he will work with.

This is the function of the coming New Age souls who will build it, consciousnesses attuned to the whole of life and afire with the cosmic vision that the New Age heralds.
