In October 1995 I took part in a trek to the remote Humla region in Nepal. The call had gone out in Spring 1995 for volunteers to join and help build a health post.
My special contribution was a “Doorway to Health”, designed by my friend Janet Banks with initials of hundreds of sponsors from Scotland on one side and Buddhist and Celtic symbols on the other.
It was a powerful symbol of peace and collaboration.
I carved it in Findhorn and it was being shipped and then carried on horseback to be included as the portal to the first health post in the Dozom River Valley. There is was blessed by the Lama before it was placed at the entrance of the health post.
The Doorway to Health is depicted in the logo of the Nepal Trust, still used today.
