An Esoteric Myth About the Foundation of the Community

There is an esoteric myth about the founding the of the community that I particularly like. There is not an exact source for it that I can name, but it seeped into my brain in the early seventies. (At that time the community was full of folk who studied and practised Western esoterics, particularly Theosophy, Rosicrucianism, Alice Bailey and Steiner.)

According to this myth, in the twentieth century Planet Earth and one of her major centres, humanity, was trying to take herself through a very difficult transformatory shift. This shift, seen from our perspective, entailed moving from an isolated atomic perspective and experience, into a holistic synergetic perspective and experience. The process of change was so difficult that Earth and humanity were sounding out into the cosmos a tense note of pain and effort. (This is not surprising, considering the tensions of the World Wars, the Cold War and the divide between South and North.)

Somewhere on the other side of the universe there was a system—planetary or stellar—which recognised this particular sound of distress. It recognised this note of distress because it too, in its history, had been through a similar difficult transformation. In consultation with the Great Heavenly Consciousness this system asked if it could help Earth and humanity. The GHC said “Okay” and the system sent an aspect of its consciousness to incarnate into Earth and humanity.

This aspect of its consciousness is sometimes known as the Avatar of Synthesis. The Avatar of Synthesis brings into Earth and humanity the principle of Synergy. It could not, however, just descend as a cloud to permeate everything in general. A plot, therefore, was hatched by the Great White Lodge of saints, adepts and rishis (humans who have liberated themselves from the cycle of incarnation, are ‘perfect’ and remain usually invisible on Earth to help us.) They planned to build some centres made of human beings through whom the Avatar of Synthesis could incarnate. They were also, at the same time, planning the recreation of certain mystery schools. Perhaps it was possible that one centre could serve both purposes. ‘Whom shall we use to set this up?’ they asked. Ah ha! There spotted three disciplined and willing disciples who would make a perfect seed-group and who would see the founding of the project through to completion.

Thus it was that Eileen heard the voice of God, Peter obeyed and Dorothy worked creatively with the angelic aspect. (I believe that Auroville is another place where this happened.) So Eileen, Dorothy and Peter were indeed following very clear guidance as they set down roots and foundations for the Findhorn Centre. It is thought that the particular Adept or Rishi who oversaw the founding was that western teacher known variously as St. Germain, Ragoczi and Christian Rosencreutz. The Universal Sanctuary in The Park building was always dedicated to him and until recently there was a picture of him in the entrance to the Park Building.

This whole story is interesting because it suggests that people come to the Community essentially to be permeated by this new attitude-quality of synergy—to let the Avatar of Synthesis incarnate more fully. Synergy means an emerging creative and co-operative connection between everything—at all levels and dimensions, between all levels and dimensions: emotional, physical, etheric, spiritual, mental, cellular, solar, cosmic, earthly and so on. Visitors and students at the community may think they are doing a workshop, visiting a community, having a new age romance—and focalisers may believe they are facilitating that—but behind everything what is really happening is that people are being impregnated by the Avatar of Synthesis. So even when workshops appear not to work, something esoteric and powerful is taking place. Visitors are always changed.

It is widely recognised that the Foundation has had and still has a planetary importance though, often, people do not in fact understand why. Perhaps the Avatar of Synthesis and its response to Earth’s and humanity’s need is part of the answer.
