I first encountered the Community here in Findhorn in the 1970s while living in Scotland. I loved it, so when I returned to California I attempted to start a “Findhorn house” during my college years. I returned frequently to Findhorn over the decades as a visitor and became a Resource Person for the Findhorn Foundation. However, life called me toward a career as a Park Ranger in National Parks in the USA – a role that became my “playground” for decades.

Whether I was backpacking through the Sierra Nevada for months or working in the Spanish missions of Arizona, nature was my primary spiritual teacher. As a ranger, I saw myself as a bridge, helping people connect with and love the land so they would instinctively protect it. I’ve always felt that the National Parks should be treated like museums—preserved and sacred—rather than farms to be exploited.

I returned to live in the Park Ecovillage permanently during the 60th birthday celebration in 2022. Now, as I lose my physical sight, my connection to the world has shifted to memory and feeling. I may not see fairies or talk to “inner beings” like others in the Community do, but I feel the immense power of this land. To me, the “spirit of Findhorn” is a force stronger than the people here, and it’s a joy to finally call this Community my home.
