Mothers in the 70s

Mothering, or parenting, was not seen as work in the 70s, so we took our babies with us to work, as I did to Publications in 1975. Two years later 11 women were pregnant and we rebelled and set up the Mothers Work Department to recognise our role as mothers. Our focaliser went to the focalisers group along with the other work departments and then parenting became accepted. This was a breakthrough. When my son Tom had a disability it was not easy to live here and we left when he was four. However, when we retired some years ago, Tom encouraged us to come back and that feels very good.
