GIGS IN THE HALL

The Universal Hall’s ability to hold large sell out concerts developed in the mid-90s as a result of Mike Scott living in the community and the Hall team promoting his concerts. In the last five years it has established itself as one of the ‘must play’ venues in Scotland. As Duncan Chisholm, fiddler with Wolfstone, said, “Eight out of 10 fiddlers prefer the Universal Hall.” Salsa Celtica recorded a live album here in 2010 and the acoustics of the Hall are praised by everyone.

We receive financial support from Creative Scotland for 30 dance, music and theatre events annually. Recent sold out highlights have included Dougie Maclean, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Deva Premal and Miten and The Scottish Chamber Orchestra. We also have ethnic concerts in the programme where possible.

The Hall also operates as a regional digital cinema with regular art-house and mainstream movies. We’re currently looking at live streaming concerts; it may be that by the time you read this you will be able to watch Universal Hall concerts online.
