Maria Craig’s working-class roots instilled in her a work ethic and can do attitude that has served her from an early age right up to the point in her life where she embarked on a late career as a filmmaker, recently completing a degree in film and a masters in screenwriting.
Maria is the Producer and Director of a feature documentary ‘Firebird’. The film celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Findhorn Community against a backdrop of ongoing challenges the community has gone through over the past three years due to Brexit, fires, the pandemic and the resulting redundancies that had to take place in the Findhorn Foundation. This will be the third documentary Maria has made about the community. The first was ‘The Story So Far’ in 2012 and in 2021 she made a 30-minute documentary for BBC Scotland ‘Growing Up Green’.
Maria’s had an interesting life since leaving Glasgow in the 70’s and has worked in many countries around the world with her husband, following his career as a loss adjuster of natural disasters. She first heard about Findhorn when she was working in The Middle East and made her first sojourn to the foundation in 1983 with her then 3-year-old son. She fell in love with the community and the Findhorn Bay and engaged in a number of programmes over the years including Essence of Arts in 1997. Maria kept her dream alive to one day settle in Findhorn. She now lives in the village with her husband David and is still very involved in community life.
