About May East

I have a portfolio career, combining multiple streams of interests. As designer, consultant, educator, researcher and lecturer I thrive by working at the edges of bio-cultural-spatial systems.

Came to the Findhorn Foundation Community: 1992
Areas of involvement with the Findhorn Foundation Community: UN Liaison, Ecovillage Education
Community leadership: UN Liaison 1995 ongoing
Experience in the community affected your work in the world: Based in Findhorn I founded and led two international organisations CIFAL Findhorn/Scotland and Gaia Education. I played a prominent role in developing relationships between the United Nations and the Findhorn Ecovillage, culminating in the establishment of CIFAL Findhorn in 2006. Under my leadership the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) affiliated training centre for Northern Europe hosted over 100 seminars addressing policy development and technical issues related to climate change, renewable energies, biodiversity, low-carbon housing, SDGs, circular economy, green jobs, local and bioregional food systems, hydrogen economy, sustainable islands and other themes. Regarding Gaia Education, from Findhorn I orchestrated an international consortium of sustainability designers and educators from ecovilleges worldwide who successfully supported the delivery of over 400 programmes in 55 countries for 22,000 graduates. Gaia Education programmes have been offered in settings ranging from tribal and traditional communities to intentional ecovillages, from urban slum settings to universities and R&D centers.
