I’m a city child, so I don’t know much about gardening, but I’m interested in the subtle realms. I recently interviewed the anthroposophic teacher Thomas Meyer, and I realised how little I actually know. He taught me that everything is alive and has a spirit; they communicate with us through our feelings.

I feel there is a gap between what the founders talked about—like Dorothy giving her talk in the Universal Hall where she told us that we need to find out how does a deva think and feel etc.—and our shared experience in the Community today.

My feeling is that Ecovillage Findhorn is an important place for the planet but that we could step much deeper into that responsibility. I don’t have the answers, but I think as we come together, we might find them. And I just think love is the magic ingredient for everything.

I asked Thomas: “How can you perceive elemental beings?” and he replied, “To experience nature beings, you don’t need to be an initiate; rather, you must pay close attention to the experiences you’ve had already but easily overlook.”

I want to thank Thomas for this inspiring conversation and hope that there will be many more.

The Earth is animated by nature spirits—dwarves, water nymphs, fairies, sylphs, and salamanders. However, due to our materialistic culture, we humans have lost contact with these elemental beings.

The anthroposophical meditation teacher Thomas Mayer has written several books on elemental beings.
