While I was attending the Creating Findhorn Where You Are course in 2022, I was particularly taken by Creativity Week during which Ian Turnbull was a guest speaker. I think he amazed us all (he certainly did me!) with his enthusiasm and the story of how he came to create the gorgeous Nature Sanctuary at the Park Ecovillage over 30 years ago. We were then shown the following video which beautifully brought to life the whole experience and made me feel as though I had actually visited myself!
What is it about the Nature Sanctuary that makes it seem such a special place to me, a person who has never actually visited the Park?
Well, there are several things.
I love the way it nestles into its surroundings, the rocks and ferns, and how it looks like an organic work of art with the arrangements of the stones and its living roof and cute wooden doorway.
The thing that makes me feel most connected with this place though is the painting adorning the ceiling inside (see photo). Wow! How truly mesmerizing, inspiring and welcoming is this incredible work of art? To me, it is simply stunning. The painted ceiling was actually an addition to the Nature Sanctuary after the filming of this video. It was created during COVID lockdown.
So, I invite you to take fifteen minutes to sit back and enjoy the wonder that is this very special little place…
P.S: In the video you will also get a chance to discover the Singing Chamber, which sits close to the Universal Hall and is another one of Ian Turnbull’s astonishing buildings…

I’m a member of the Global Community and discovered ‘Findhorn’ back in 2020. Since March 2024 I have been a COIF volunteer. I live in England, in the East Midlands, with my husband and a family of dogs. I love to spend my days out in nature, going for walks in the countryside. Reading books, especially ones on poetry, philosophy and seasonal living is another favourite pastime. I’m a keen gardener and, perhaps unusually, prefer to spend time in my garden during winter and spring. Hobbies include nature photography, phenology and meteorology.
