(Amended excerpts of transmission through David Spangler from a being identifying himself as an emissary of the elemental kingdoms, on the 4th of August, 1970, at the Park. From ‘Man, Nature and the New Age’ in the Original Series of Study Papers.)

Emissary: Blessings to you. I am an emissary of the elemental kingdoms.

Q: Do you have a message that you would like to give, or would you like us to start with questions?

Emissary: In all things we must be invited into co-operation and communication with you. We cannot intrude.

Q: I do not have a specific question, other than advice and help on a broad field. Man has traditionally carried out certain garden practices that have been developed down the centuries. The problem is to know which ones have been inspired by the devic and elemental kingdoms or from the God within, and how many are not from that source. And if so, in this New Age how are garden practices to change to avoid giving offence to a nature kingdom?

Emissary: That is a proper invitation. You must understand first how we work. We are not of the physical body of the plant of which you are aware. We represent the beings who make possible the growth and development of the forms of nature. We are not the physical body of the plant but we nurture it and enable it to grow. Indeed, all of the elementals are far more ancient as a kingdom than the Earth itself, and we draw freely upon the powers of-cosmic creativity. We are children of the vast reaches of space, as much as citizens of any planet. Before a planet can come into existence, we are. And we bring the planet into existence. All that you see, we have formed following the plans laid down by God.

As we enter the etheric world, we may take on various forms which are provided by the imaginations of human beings. But we are not the simple little beings that appear to flit from flower to flower, or hover about a tree; the simplest elemental of the tiniest flower is still an outpost of vast and cosmic power.

There are few limits to what we can achieve within the will of God. At one time, we were the sole masters of Earth. We made it possible for humanity to develop upon this world.

Like ourselves, humanity is itself a formative force. In a way, you reflect within yourselves aspects of the elemental and angelic kingdoms, but you are blessed with the power of creative imagination, a power we do not possess in the same way. You are evolving to perform a role upon the earth that is related to ours but different as well, involving different capabilities. We have the task of assisting you in your role, as long as it does not undo the work that we have been given to do in serving and nourishing this world.

When humanity was created, for ages we were your teachers. We guided and protected you. You responded to us because in your inmost sensitivity, you was one with us. But in the days of humanity’s youth, we were still the authority. We were the lords of Earth, and humanity was but another of the creatures whom we tended and whose growth we inspired.

There came a time when you began to tap and unfold the gift of your creative power. Then you set upon the road toward learning to master that power and to discover your unique identity and purpose. Gradually you began to turn away from us. The exercise of your authority began at times to conflict with ours, and when it did your will was generally allowed precedence, and we were asked to serve you.

There were many of our number who objected to this, and there have been times of crisis in our relationship with you when we have risen in justifiable anger and destroyed your works. For the most part, though, we have sought to cooperate with you even when you have not reciprocated, since we understood that you needed to grow into using your creative power wisely and with keen and loving understanding of the needs of the Earth.

We who are of this kingdom of builders do understand the needs of Earth. This gives us a power you do not have yet, in spite of your creativity. You approach the earth now through your mind, while we approach it through love and oneness. Hence, nature does not obey you as swiftly and perfectly as it will obey us. You have not yet fully awakened to the angelic side of your natures that would give you the kind of deep rapport with the forces of nature that we enjoy.

You have the right to attempt to cloak your planet in artificiality; but long before you could succeed in doing this, you will have destroyed yourself, for you do not yet know how to maintain the balance of life on all levels. And though you have a certain creative authority, you must learn that you are part of the nature kingdom as well; though you have a certain dominion over it, you cannot destroy it without destroying yourself. Nor can you afford to lose our co-operation unless you wish self-destruction. The head and the brain have authority over the human body, but the brain cannot subject the body to undue stress and torment as many humans do through their diet and actions of life, and expect to survive; for if the body is destroyed, the brain must die.

You have reached a crisis point. As you continues to exert unthinking authority and domination over the world simply because you seem to have the power to do so, you will destroy the ecological pattern of this planet and yourself in the process. We cannot be destroyed, nor can humanity’s true nature be destroyed; but you can turn your creative power upon yourself and render the planet unfit.

How joyous it is, therefore, for us to witness the unfoldment of a pattern of co-operation such as in this Centre, for then we see hope and we see an outlet for us to reach into human consciousness.

Humanity’s role is to tend the Earth as a steward. But it is wrong for you to attempt to play the part of devic or elemental overlord; that is our role. What you must do is exercise your creative, inspirational authority in a manner that expresses your love for all the lives upon and within the earth. This is your true place in the scheme of things on Earth. You can create the vision of what must be done. This is your God-given power.

The elemental beings under the authority of Pan, as you call him, do not originate the patterns of earth and of nature; they only build them and maintain them. They have great power to do this. Remember we are not tied to the Earth. We are cosmic in our scope, and we can draw upon the formative powers of the cosmos. Never underestimate what we are. But we do not have the ability to originate. That is not our function.

Because you are creative and can originate patterns, you have a responsibility to anchor that creativity and imagination in a deep understanding of and love for the forces and forms of nature. Because we are already one with those forces and forms, we can help you here if you open to our inspiration and wisdom. Also, if you can learn to commune with us so that we can understand and relate to your purposes, then we can provide the power that enacts the changes you wish to make. We can implement your patterns just as we implement those of the angels who hold the blueprints for nature. We cannot do that, though, if your patterns are thoughtless or contrary to the wholeness of the world or if they are conceived and enacted with no thought to the wellbeing of any other life than your own. We cannot understand you nor communicate with you in your selfishness.

We do not wholly understand human beings; you are often as strange to us as we may be to you. Yet we both share the same origins in the heart of God and God’s life flows through us both. We are cousins, and our respective roles can be complementary.

The key is love. If you insist that humanity must dominate and you use what to us is brute force through chemicals and physical manipulations to gain what you wish with no regard to the consciousness or life of the soil or the plants, then you do not act in love. Then we cannot understand you, nor can we support you. We may actually even resist your efforts if they threaten the world that we serve.

However, when you can approach nature with love and with a desire to be a co-creator, a partner, not a conqueror or ruler, then we can draw close. We can more easily discern the desires you have and can see how we can assist their implementation.

One great soul who understood this learned to transform the form of plants through the sheer power of his love and understanding. His name was Luther Burbank, and he demonstrated the power that is possible when humanity and the nature kingdom cooperate together, without any form of physical force but with physical nurturing and that power of love that gives us the vision of what must be done, and the free hand to do it.

So we ask for a blend of wildness and human vision, a choice on your part to understand and commune with us and our perspective, and a willingness through love to seek cooperation and not domination. There are areas and times when you have the authority to do what you wish as your intution and insight indicate; you do not have to ask our permission everytime you prune a plant or lay a seed. We do ask, though, that you exercise this authority mindfully and with love. We respect your authority as a mutual force of nature, so to speak, but we ask that you also respect our existence and our world and see nature in a deeper way than is often the case.

The work you are doing in this Centre with this garden is not just a co-operative venture. We are not here to beautify this garden for the glory of any man, but for the glory of God. You are not our superior; we are not your superior. We are lovers. As humanity invokes ever more powerful energies of creativity and of destruction, we must become one if these energies are to be utilised properly and not become destructive. We yearn for this oneness. It must go beyond co-operation.

Before anything is done in this garden, it must be considered from our point of view, as well as from your point of view. This is not a usurpation of your creative rights. We are asking for you to extend your creative imagination and vision. We wish to understand how you think, and we wish you to understand how we think. Then, from partnership can flow oneness and love, and it is this love that is most important. It is truly the most important gift of your garden.

There are elemental beings who are still undergoing great pain at the hands of humanity, not here but elsewhere in the world. The thing that is keeping them in balance is the love and the peace and the light that is flowing from this Centre and other centres like it that are beginning to be formed.

If through your thoughtlessness and actions, we cannot establish a deeper understanding and communion, and if you impose your will such that there is no room for our presence and character to live and act in your garden, then we would have to withdraw. If we were to withdraw from this Centre, it would cut off that healing and transmuting power. The ability of our kingdom to shield humanity form the effects of its own selfishness and folly and to contain the destructive forces that your species unwittingly invokes would be lessened, to the detriment of all of us.

We are shielding humanity; we are protecting you and experiencing pain in our being in doing it. But our love for you is great, because we are kin, and in many ways you are our children. We honor the hope and promise that lies in you, and honor our oneness in the presence of God. To do all we can to build new bonds of cooperation and communion between us is a joy as well as a calling for us. We ask that your do your share.

Q: I, Peter, on behalf of man, thank you for this unfoldment of the change in pattern at our Community and to the Earth. I seek and pledge to seek the co-operation and brotherhood with the nature forces. This will not always be easy, because in man there has been a long, long pattern of doing things in a certain way, and change is always difficult.

Emissary: We understand this. And this is why we have great patience within the limits allowed to us for the safety of you and the safety of our kingdom. As long as you make consistent steps toward change, mistakes in the moment will be overlooked and balanced out – if we can see evidence of growth and continued co-operation with us and of your desire to to delve deeply into communion with us and with the God within yourselves.

So I convey to you the blessing and the love of the kingdom I represent and wish you to know that it places its hand upon you in thankfulness for what you are doing. You are performing a great task, not only for humanity but for us. You are making many things possible beyond what you have conscious knowledge of. Bless you my son, bless you each. Bless you all.
