“Something in me is trying to listen to the whole field. I try to listen to everything and find a way that I feel would support a movement of the whole thing forward.”
In this conversation with Alex Wright, I explore my work with subtle activism, how it relates to the social activism I was involved with in South Africa, and how this all now shows up for me as the community is going through its present changes.
As a young person involved in the protests against apartheid in South Africa I was presented with a powerful spiritual lesson. From a non-physical source we were told “What you’re doing is okay, but it’s really important that you do that with love for those against whom you are protesting.” I mean, I think that was really quite pivotal for me. I don’t know that I could ever say that I actually really came to love them, but at least […] I had a different attitude towards them. It was like, “Okay, that’s who they are, and this is who I am and this is a stand I’m making.”
For me, what we need is a balanced approach to collective healing through inner work and the evolution of attunement-led decision making in community.
