Imagine first a desert of sand stone held together by couch grass. Take a man with no previous experience of gardening and put the two together – and the result ought to be negligible. Yet out of such an incongruous union comes the remarkable story of the Findhorn Garden. It could be likened to the story of Noah who was guided by God to build an Ark where there was no water and far from the sea. He was given minute instructions as to every detail of its building. Everyone thought he was a crazy old man. Even his family questioned his sanity and Noah himself had no idea of the true purpose of the Ark’s creation. Yet, obedient to God’s Word, he persevered. It was only later on that the wisdom and underlying meaning of his instructions were revealed.
At first the creation of the garden at Findhorn, which started from small beginnings, seemed equally as senseless as that of the building of the Ark. Now, looking back, one can discern a thread running through everything that has happened since November 1962. One is able too to realise that there has been an underlying reason for everything that has taken place during the past five years. The whole venture has been a group effort: that of a group of pioneers living in the New Age acting throughout under the direct guidance of God and working in close co operation with the Devas and Nature Spirits.
It must be emphasised here that although both the Devas and the Nature Spirits belong to the Angelic Kingdom, their work is different. The Findhorn garden may therefore be regarded as an experiment in co operation between three kingdoms: that of Man, that of the Devas and that of the Nature Spirits.
Man is represented by myself, the active practical creator of the garden.
The Devas are the Angelic Beings who wield the archetypal forces. There is one of these for every species of the plant kingdom and in addition there are Devas of sound, colour, wind, etc. These Devas deal with forces and with pattern or form. The Nature Spirits, or Elementals, are concerned with using energy to build the form, e.g. causing the sap to rise. In effect the Devas provide the blueprint and energy and the Nature Spirits carry out the actual work. With her great love for nature my colleague named Divina is able to communicate with the Devas. This form of communication is very difficult to explain and she can only say that she soars into a realm of beauty and light and feeling where mind and heart are one. These thoughts she is able to crystallise into words.
The Nature Spirits, under the leadership of Pan, communicate with us through the one whom we call Roc, who has been trained as a scientist and psychologist. He is able to see and communicate with these Nature Spirits. It is most important for the future of mankind that belief in the nature forces and their god Pan is re-established and that they are seen in their true light and not misunderstood. It is necessary, as there is so much misunderstanding about these beings which it is important to clear up, to underline the fact that Pan is not a pagan enemy of the true God and his subjects are not imps and devils – a point of view still fostered by some. He is one of the high gods who are servants of the one true God, the Creator, and his subjects are part of the Angelic Hierarchy who carry out the Will of God.
Man’s misunderstanding and disbelief has brought about a separation between kingdoms which ought to be working together. In this New Age it is essential that a reconciliation is sought and reached, and let us never forget that the co-operation is two-way. It is not enough simply to believe in them and ask them to help. We must get to know them and try to understand their ways, so that we do not do anything in ignorance that causes them offence and might drive them away.
This first pamphlet indicates the rapid expansion of the work which is being carried out at Findhorn. It includes already many aspects of the New Age and the community here is growing rapidly as people from all parts of the world are guided to come to get recharged and some decide to remain and join it. We are now registered as a charitable trust, the Findhorn Trust. We are a working group, an organism not an organisation. We have no blueprint; we go forward step by step as we are led in this experiment of co-operation between the three kingdoms and we can only offer these Devas and Nature Spirits our profound thanks for allowing us to join with them in this great and exciting experiment.
We thank the Findhorn Foundation for the permission to offer this document from their Archive on our website.
