When I was young I had had mythical experiences, but had put them aside as I moved into my teens and got deeply involved in sports and the other usual pursuits young men. This continued until one day when after I had graduated from college and was participating in an alumni Rugby match. After match I was walking across an open area on the college campus when suddenly this Being of Light appeared before me. It didn’t say anything just radiated its brilliance. I found myself having internal dialogue and was out loud saying no. Then I seemed to realize protest was futile and I said “yes”. At that point this amazing presence of peace flowed over me. The being disappeared, but the presence peace continued for the next couple of days during which I felt like I could have stopped a raging bull dead in its tracks by just the touch of my finger. I also now had this insatiable appetite for all things spiritual. When I got back home I found a meditation center nearby. They offered a weekend class where if you took the class you could repeat it for free for a year. So I proceeded to take it 11 more times as it was held once a month.

After you had graduated the class you could come to the Wednesday social times. This is where graduates would gather and update each other on what was happening in their lives and meditate together. One particular Wednesday evening I noticed this very interesting older man working the crowd. He looked like a California hippie with long gray hair in a pony tail down his back. He ultimately came up before me and said “You are Tim Hass right?” I responded. “ Yes” cautiously. He then said. “ I have a book for you.” He then handed me the book The Magic of Findhorn. I again cautiously thanked him.

That night after the meeting I read the book from cover to cover and was blown away. But the very interesting thing was the next few days I tried to return the book to the elderly gentleman and maybe learn more about this strange and interesting community. But, he was no where to be found. The other graduates thought he was a friend of mine and no one knew him or how to get a hold of him. He had showed up, given me the book and then flat out disappeared. So I changed my focus to contacting the community to inquire about how to visit.

A bit later in the mail from Findhorn in response to my inquiry I received an all filled out visitors application for Findhorn for someone from Texas. I sent it back pointed out the mistake and requested a new application. I then received another all filled out application for someone from New York. Again sent it back and requested a new form. After the third time of the same result (another filled out application) I decided it not the right timing and proceeded to go about my life doing my daily meditation and enrolling in the Arcane School.

Then in the fall  a few month later I was again at an alumni rugby match. I doing my morning meditation when I got the way is clear for you to go to Findhorn in November check the materials. When returned home I looked through the other materials that had been sent to me and found an blurb about a Essence of Findhorn Program starting in the fall in November-perfect. It said to write something about yourself so I poured out myself in 10 pages of story including the experience my father’s recent death from cancer. The woman who was the co-focalizer for the Essence Program read my discourse and turned to her roommate Mary Inglis ( who was in charge of the upcoming November membership orientation) and said, “ I said I think this person should come for membership orientation and not the Essence program and if he comes I am going to fall in love with him.”  I did come for the guest week and then straight into orientation. She did fall in love with me and I with her. That woman was at the time Rue Wallace who is now Rue Hass my wife and soul companion for 40 plus years.
