Peter Caddy

Peter Caddy digging – garden around cedarwood bungalows
Peter was a very conscientious person. He was strong, dedicated and energetic. He believed he did everything for God. He was fun loving and I liked his spontaneity. He worked long hours in the garden, digging the soil, putting light into the ground. He also played loud music from radio 3 much of the time as he dug so he didn’t hear the sounds of Nature and nor could those around him! He was a very charismatic person. He would suddenly go off on a car trip sometimes taking ROC with him. He would visit places like Iona, St Anne’s, Glastonbury and later Attingham Park in Shropshire. ROC discovered power points on Iona, at Glastonbury and at Findhorn. Peter was a fine leader. He lent heavily on Eileen’s guidance in the early days and also on ROC’s wisdom.
Janet and I visited St Anne’s near Blackpool to see where Leibie Pugh had lived at St George’s Square. A group called the Universal Link had formed around her. She had passed away in 1966. I experienced a rarified electrical energy in Leibie’s upper room which was being looked after by Kathleen Fleming. The Universal Link was a forerunner to Findhorn. Anthony Brooke, was part this group. He later bought a property at Findhorn which was called the Universal bungalow.
Dorothy Maclean
In 1967 Dorothy was working during the day as a secretary to Moray Estates in Forres. When she returned home on the bus Peter would give her a pile of typewriting that he wanted doing that night – letters and Eileen’s guidance. He never appreciated her fully and it wasn’t until many years later that he thanked her for all her work. Dorothy was such a wonderful Being. She lived a Life dedicated to serving God. She had a great sense of fun and adventure. She reached her hundredth birthday in January 2020 after a life of service to the Highest. She was proud of her Canadian heritage. She had two brothers and a very happy childhood. Dorothy was a talented badminton player who captained her university team. She grew up in Ontario before moving to New York aged 20 to join MI6 during WWII. Her boss was William Stephenson, the head of the British Secret Service. She moved countries a number of times to places like Panama and Argentina. It was at this time she met and married John Wood who was also a spy. He introduced her to Sufi teachings. After ten years their marriage closed.

Dorothy in the office
I met Dorothy on my first visit to Findhorn in February 1967. She was a beautiful shining Being. She had many fine qualities not the least being her wisdom. She loved being in nature. She developed a telepathic link with the devic world and was able to learn through them what was needed to improve the poor quality of our soil. Remarkably vibrant vegetables began to grow in the sandy soil. In 1973 she left Findhorn for the US to become part of a group of ex Findhorn people who called themselves the Lorians. She had an adventurous nature which she maintained throughout her life. She lectured around the world into her late eighties before returning to Findhorn from the US for her final decade. She passed away peacefully aged 100 in her bungalow having completed her mission.
Eileen Caddy

Jonathan, Eileen, David 1967 outside Joanie’s
Eileen was a very good mother. She was always available for her boys when they were young. In the evenings she would sit in her caravan knitting little items like socks and shawls for babies. She had a very small galley in the original caravan on which to cook. There wasn’t room in the caravan for the boys to play so they spent most of their time when not at school outside, exploring the woods and beach. David and Christopher went to scouts and Tae Kwondo whereas Jonathan would take himself off into the woods with his guitar. Eileen was a very loving and compassionate person. She would spend many hours each night in meditation and this was when she received her guidance. She was always welcoming to new people. She was grounded, hard working and totally practical. She was meticulous in all she did. Her handwriting was tiny but beautiful. She faced so many huge challenges in her lifetime. She had a younger brother Rex who needed a lot of support and an older brother Paddy. She also had a sister called Torrie. She bore eight children. She lived at Findhorn for 45 years – half her lifetime – and she acted as the anchor as so many people came and went.
Lena Lamont
Lena was the only Scot amongst the four founders. She was born on the Isle of Skye. She had been Peter’s landlady in Glasgow. When they moved to Forres to manage Cluny Hill Hotel Peter appointed Lena to be in charge of the domestic staff. She was his eyes and ears. At Findhorn she lived in a tiny caravan close to the Caddys with her three children. She was a very quiet and sensitive person yet highly respected by everyone. She would clean in Joanie’s bungalow and also for Captain Gibson, the Caravan Park owner. She moved with her family in 1975 to Edinburgh.

Born in England, I joined the Caddy Family in 1967 (aged 22) and pioneered Community living here. Findhorn has been my spiritual home ever since.
