I worked on transforming the doors into the auditorium from the unfinished plywood state to the good looking doors with elm framing and mock leather panels.

It was certainly hard work as the doors have a thick asbestos lining because they are the fire doors for the auditorium. They are heavy and needed to be moved to be worked on. Lining up and fitting the elm edges to the doors was also a challenge as not everything was exactly square.

However it did all get done on time and I am sure no one now notices any irregularities.

Another challenge was the number of people working in the relatively small area. Jim was creating the curved foyer stairs, also the stained glass panels being created, carpets fitted, walls painted. You name, it all trades were there.

Not easy work and conditions but at the end a satisfaction that I had contributed to the completion. Then on the last night before opening of the third World Wilderness Congress I helped put the carvings on the front doors.

Some of my work also brings beauty to the foyer – a few sculptures and coffee tables.
