Winter…

“In the natural world, what occurs in the heart and depths of winter? To the outer vision everything is dead. Snow lies on the ground—if one is where snow falls in the winter. Life has come to a stop, or so it would appear, and the earth seems to be in its period of greatest crystallization. But if one could see behind this appearance, one would be aware that this is the time when life impregnates the earth and quickens the seed within the soil. It is the time when the earth, freed from the hurly-burly of the summer, meditates on itself and affirms its true identity. Imagine yourself coming home from work. All day you have been involved with people and activities, and through this involvement you become a bit scattered. You come home and you take time to relax and gather yourself together. It is a time of meditation, a time of quiet, and yet it is a time of rediscovering and reaffirming who you are. So it is in the winter time of the earth. It is the festival of identity, of knowing that in reality there is only life. Beyond form, beyond time, beyond space, there is only life.

During this festive season our focus will be on Christmas. But Christmas is an eternal festival. The Light is always arising, always being born, and we always have opportunities for identification with the Light. Therefore let us use this time to open our hearts and minds to a greater rhythm, a greater understanding of what we really are, and let us spread that rhythm to all our days and nights, filling them with Light.”
