It is clear from the descriptions that there was no doubt among the followers of this manifestation that the Master being spoken of was Jesus. In describing the unfoldment of the Universal Link Liebie tells of the Master making Richard Grave a healer and telling him to move to Blackpool to open a Spiritual healing Centre. Grave had, up to this point, been an estate agent but gave up everything of his former life and, along with his wife’s full agreement, they moved together to Blackpool. Liebie followed them there shortly afterwards. The whole affair being arranged by the Master as her house was sold to friends who took it over lock, stock and barrel.

The Propinquity Meeting (‘propinquity’ means being close to) records the last meeting prior to Liebie’s passing and the gathering of friends who came to be with her at that time. This included Peter Caddy and Anthony Brooke. The booklet begins

“On this Day, Sunday the 4th December,1966 at 11 a.m. 33 people came together at 1 St.George’s Square. Apart from those living in St. Annes these people had gathered from all parts of the British Isles and from America and Australia and greetings had come from other countries. We gathered quietly in Liebie’s sitting room bringing to her our love, joy, understanding and a sense of unity and harmony beyond the power of words to describe.

Liebie, now very frail, rested quietly in an adjoining room. In her absence it had been agreed that the Meeting should be taken jointly by Richard Grave, Anthony Brooke and Peter Caddy.

It was Anthony who requested that Richard should open this very special propinquity meeting by reading the message given to him that morning by the All Knowing One at 9.55 a.m.

Richard – “This message came at 9.55 a.m. this morning from the All Knowing One. It says ‘This is the last propinquity in the presence of my Earth Entity. Today you will talk freely among yourselves until 11.55 a.m. at which time you will observe five minutes silence and meditation. At the hour of 12 noon you will resume discussion. “THIS IS A MIGHTY PHASE OF MY WHOLE OPERATION AND EXERCISE”.

Anthony was asked to explain the term “my Earth Entity”

“Anthony explained this by saying “Limitless Love is One and Liebie is One with Limitless Love who appeared to Richard and who has since been appearing in different parts of the world. Limitless Love, also known as Truth, had appeared in many forms, but the particular form which appeared to Richard was one with Liebie. There was an operation going on throughout the world and it was from St. Annes that this operation was, as it were, being announced. Many people realised that we were on the threshold of a New Age and that the world was not going to continue in the way they had formerly known it. Various thinkers and writers had expressed this in different terms. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin had spoken of the Divinisation of the world and the Christification of mankind as being the phase we were all entering. It was open to us to give ourselves to this Christing process as channels for the rule of Limitless Love – the rule of Love and Truth on earth. We could not say now quite what was going to happen. It was, however, a fact that Limitless Love was appearing frequently through the actions and to the vision of more and more people. Anthony then asked Richard Grave to explain how these visitations appeared to him.

Richard then explained that these visitations to him came in the physical form of Liebie. Certain people did see precisely what he saw when he looked at Liebie, or the Earth Entity aspect. Richard said: “I get these visitations quite frequently although not always accompanied by messages.” Sometimes nothing at all might be said but nevertheless the visits had increased over the past few years, though they had not been so frequent over the past four or six months. On practically every occasion in those few months there had been some form of message that he had to deliver to Liebie. Probably people knew all about this from recent bulletins. At the beginning of the visitations he felt and said that this was something particular to himself. This had proved to be correct, though there was nothing special in the way of messages to support it. As Anthony had pointed out there had been many appearances of the All Knowing One throughout the world, and this one was particular to himself as there were messages which he was told specifically to deliver to Liebie. Gradually, by degree, as the All Knowing One said to him in the first instance, we were coming to a period when He would, in fact, reveal Himself to the Universe through nuclear evolution.

It seemed fitting that this original experience despite being particular to himself had gradually blossomed out into this gigantic; fantastic exercise. The people present were from all over the country, and, perhaps the world, all of whom had had their own individual experiences.

Anthony and others who were travelling about the world had met numbers of people who had had very similar experiences to himself, and who had talked and met with the same entity that he (Richard) was meeting.

It was difficult to remember all that had happened in the six years of the visits but, Richard added: “This is a beautiful thing that I share with you, you can be sure of that. Nothing (other than messages which were solely for Liebie) has been kept back, everything you have read is precisely what I have been given. However, humanly speaking, it was very difficult to have an experience of this sort and to try to project the whole image. To put this thing over to other people the whole image must be projected not just the physical aspect. It is the beauty, the serenity of the whole substance of the thing which strikes me”. He added that there was a mechanical peculiarity associated with it which might interest people. When the A.K.O. appeared to him, or when he had had sight of Him, there was an amplification of sound in his head – all noises going on around him (birds, cars etc.) became screaming and very distorted, and for quite a while he had headaches following this type of amplification.

It was difficult to describe the whole thing but it was a beautiful experience. We were now in a period of change – of concatenate. He, Richard, wondered, with the changes which were taking place involving the completion of the Earth Entity, whether these beautiful experiences would continue. He did not know whether these changes meant that his job was finished; he hoped that it would never happen that the visits would cease. He very much wanted to continue to have these wonderful experiences.” (Propinquity Meeting, pp.2-4)

It is interesting to note that the entire group were in accord over the coming changes though could not say the nature of what those changes might look like or involve. Sir George Trevelyan always spoke of these changes and said how exciting to be living in this time. The last paragraph as it includes the word ‘concatenate’ used in context. It is used in connection with the world changes which we see happening around us today, probably very much more vitally than was apparent in 1966. The link would appear to be between the past role of the Earth has held and that of the future world which is beginning to unfold.

Generally we hold an all too local view of creation when we limit it to events on Earth and forget that we are part of something much larger. Astronomers revel in telling us how tiny we are, even now describing the Milky Way Galaxy as out on the edge of something much larger which seems to be drawing us all in, along with hundreds, if not millions, of other galaxies. Wonderful dynamic illustrations have been created to demonstrate this yet it all pails into insignificance when compared with the events that rend our world apart. Israel is still victimising neighbouring states and the price of oil is still rising. The world becomes increasingly unsettled as the transience of life is apprehended on a personal as well as a global scale. Species of animals and plants are disappearing, swallowed by the desperate machinations of the world economic system which serves no- one other than itself.

We have created a nightmare and need to awaken rapidly from it if we are to survive. In the light of these statements the death of an old lady in 1966 may seem of relatively minor import. Yet the testimony of those who knew her, as well as the impact that the Findhorn Community and Foundation have had around the world in the 50 years since that event, justify a little time being spent considering the life of this remarkable person.

Kathleen Fleming thought there had been some message to the effect that “As my Earth Entity is withdrawn so there will be universal sight for the world”, and therefore the Master would be seen in a sort of cosmic wonder throughout the world. (A hitherto unpublicised message reads “The lifting of the veil that I speak of means the lifting of that veil which prevents complete universal sight and in the course of which my earth being function will be less and so allowing me fully to be perceived by all my universal units. This means that eventually the earthing aspect of me will be concluded in a natural manner. My earth being function is most definitely a PHOENIX which completes its concatenate on The Day”.)

Richard replied that it had quite categorically been stated that “by the first second of the first hour of the seventh Christmas Morn hence (which took us up to Christmas, 1967) He would have revealed Himself to the Universe.”

Anthony mentioned that up to now attention had not been drawn to Liebie’s real function. Now, however, this message referring to “my Earth Entity” was given for distribution and some clarification seemed necessary as to whether the meaning of this phrase could be explained to others. There might be many ways of explaining what Liebie was grounding – the tremendous energies that produced transformation and change. In the experience of many people there could be no doubt that what we saw as Liebie and what we saw in the picture of Limitless Love were one and the same. The operation that was happening was the removal of the duality of the veil, not only from the One whom Limitless Love called “My Earth Entity” but in the context of a universal revelation. …

…Peter Caddy now read to the meeting the lovely message received by Elixir on the morning of the 1st December, shortly before he left for St.Annes “This meeting will be like turning over a page of the Book of Life. The page has been completed and now a new and glorious page will present itself. No one knows what is written on that page but I want you to know the days and months ahead will be the most wonderful and the most glorious any one has ever experienced.

Great changes have already taken place in the higher realms and they will be manifested on this earth plane these next few days. Let not the outer confuse the inner or blind the eye to the Truth”

(Propinquity meeting, p. 5)

It is evident that not only were they expecting big changes, but now with Liebie passing on a sense that ‘the real work could begin’. It is worth noting that at this time the music world was exploding with Brit Pop and the hippie movement preaching Make Love not War. While in political terms this may have been a naïve movement it did embody a certain aspiration which is reflected in the work undertaken by this dedicated group of spiritual pioneers. Something big was about to happen and they wanted to be part of it, felt they were already part of it. It is important in dealing with psychic manifestations to keep a cool head. If the vision of the world through the eyes of materialism are a depressingly short-sighted view of reality, psychic expectations are the opposite pole.

Kathleen Fleming was waiting for a universal appearance and recognition of the Master, whom she identified as Jesus and therefore the long-awaited second coming. Richard Grave was possessive of the events from the outset, not to diminish the man nor the importance of the experience he had but, due to the limitations of his mental outlook then this was something which was essentially private and personal.

Peter and Sheena’s group had already had some experience of the hounding of reporters seeking to sensationalise whatever snippet they could use to fabricate their stories. But Anthony Brooke, who was travelling the world over and meeting spiritual masters and mystics in all corners of the world, holds a more steady and staid view of the whole.

Monica Parish asked whether Liebie might be regarded as a prototype who had opened a door for us and shown us the way we could all go?

Richard thought this had been covered by a very early message to the effect that “individuals walk in their own light and that which reflects Truth to them”. He felt there was no fixed pattern; this entity had appeared in many forms and this fitted perfectly with the concept that each would see what reflected Truth to him. He accepted this; it was the love, the understanding, the whole need and the purpose of the exercise, to bring the universe into harmony. At some time in the future we might see one and the same image, that was reasonable and logical. He was, however, always conscious, humanly, of the danger of hysteria which could distract slightly from the way we were trying to think and the logic we were trying to establish if we could get away from hysteria, away from the mass image, mass ideology etc. and yet see individuals walking in their own light and seeing something that reflected truth to them, then this thing became something fantastic and marvellous – and it was Truth. … In Truth we must all be walking in the right way!” (Ibid. p.6)

As a reflection on the times in which this was spoken the Beatles released Revolver in August 1966 with their first excursion into the mystic and away from mainstream pop. Songs including Tomorrow Never knows with the lines ‘turn off your mind relax and float downstream, it is not dying.’ Already the Beatles had approached the question of death in the song Eleanor Rigby. A question which up until then had been taboo. This was released at the same time and, as with all Beatles songs released to that time, made it to number one in the UK where it sat for 4 weeks. Other songs from 1966 included ‘You don’t have to say you love me’, Dusty Springfield; ‘Sunshine Superman’, Donovan; ‘Green green grass of home’, Tom Jones; ‘Pretty Flamingo’, Manfred Mann; ‘Out of Time’, Chris Farlowe; ‘River Deep Mountain High’, Ike and Tina Turner; ‘I feel Free’, Cream; ‘California Dreamin’, Mamas & Papas; ‘Dead End Street’, Kinks; ‘Alfie’, Cilla Black; ‘Pied Piper’, Crispin St Peters; to share just a few of the titles that were influencing the general mind set in 1966.

Increasingly we were becoming aware that life was our own to live and lead as we chose to. Learning to distinguish between the superficial and the real, of what mattered when kids in the States were being shipped off to Vietnam and brought back in crates. It wasn’t a cynical era but one that was becoming knowing. Alfie, of course, is the theme song to the movie that made a huge impact on the world of young Britain as the pill began to become widespread and attitudes towards sex were changing. The film is very different in tone and tenor from its remake, with the focus of the original on the world seen through the eyes of a desperate young woman faced with abortion at a time when it was illegal and highly dangerous. Other films included ‘Blowup’, a thriller with cold war themes; ‘A Man for all Seasons’, the turbulent history of Thomas Moore and Henry VIII; ‘The Good the Bad and the Ugly’, last of the Spaghetti westerns trilogy with Clint Eastwood.

It was a time of change and the Universal Link perceived this and interpreted it in their own terms, no doubt hardly noticing the musical impact on the young. The militaristic terms in which they speak often in these documents, such as ‘Operation’, reflect the war time mentality that prevailed in Britain during the 1950s, coupled with the Christian view of a battle for the Earth between the forces of darkness and light, a vision which had been held since at least Milton’s time, and reflects more ancient beliefs. The world view was altering from one of a fixed faith materialistic view of creation, in which each had their place and it was not their place to question it, to a world of wonder and magic. The kids were listening to bands singing ‘I can hear the grass grow’. The world of nature was alive, the names of the bands themselves reflect this important aspect, not to mention the emphasis on St Francis through innumerable references to San Francisco. The Byrds, the Beatles, the Animals, the Move. It was all close and to hand. Movies had changed from Hollywood extravaganzas singing about ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’, and ‘Oooooklahoma’, where the wind comes rushing down the plains, or black and white war movies where the accursed enemy was taken out by the fearless cunning of ‘our soldiers’, to more pertinent themes, how to raise a child on your own, what to do when school ended and all there was was factory work. All of this shown in colour now. Suddenly the world had had its lights turned on. It was magical. The Who singing ‘Magic Bus’ and ‘Pictures of Lily’.

Through all this here was a wonder garden in the north of Scotland, the least hospitable area in Britain, growing 40 pound cabbages, and people speaking to plants and seeing elves and fairies. Of course the world was changing and here was a new direction for it to take, away from nuclear bombs and sinister plots. It seemed the world was ripe for intervention from the highest sources, and who was higher than Jesus?

However not all were convinced of that specific identity. Anthony Brooke told of an Indian sage who looked at the picture of Limitless Love and said :”This is the Holy Spirit. In this each one can see his own Beloved. It is my beloved Prophet Mohammed”.

Liebie had written a leaflet “Who is the Master?” from which these extracts were shared.

“Recently I had a letter from one who had read the full documentary and she wrote overwhelmed with joy, in her case equating this being with Jesus Christ – the Master she had always known and loved and of whom she had been privileged to have direct sight at times. She wrote that once when He was standing in her room she begged Him to go to a friend of hers who was in terrible distress. The Master smiled and said “All is well”. A little later she had a letter from the friend in question who was an Indian and a Mohammedan. He wrote, now beside himself with joy, that God had vouchsafed to him a vision of his beloved Prophet Mohammed. My friend wrote simply “I asked the Master to go to him and Truth gave himself to him in the form he would accept”. In the words of the Master – ‘I am the Light, the Truth. the ALL throughout the Universe’. The very fact of non-definition – since we are all aware that Truth cannot be contained in any human concepts – is, to me, one of the clearest signs of the divinity of what is being presented.” (Propinquity Meeting, p.7)

Other comments in the booklet include a further extract given here as of particular interest.

“Richard now called attention to an important point emphasising that it was on the 27th October that this propinquity meeting was called for December 4th. At that time, Liebie, the Earth Entity, was having a tremendous battle with ‘this growth’, and it seemed, humanly, that she could not last out until 4th December. The Doctor (called by Richard) had confirmed the critical nature of her condition. Yet ‘no panic’ measures were taken by the All Knowing One, the date given in October was adhered to and the Earth Entity was still here. This was very important to remember.” (ibid. p 8)

Not to transcribe the entire booklet here, a further extract suggests itself as relevant to Findhorn and the impulse that has been working through the community and Foundation since the early days. Hugh Fulton then asked if he might read a short extract from Annalee Skarin’s beautiful book “The Celestial Song of Creation” (p.163) commencing

“Love is the law of transmutation. Love can so exalt and transform every adverse condition and the individual expressing it that they take on immortality …..” and ending with the passage: “Love must be practised constantly, not in words, for words cannot carry the glory of its divine reality in their empty sounds. Love must be exercised as one would practice in order to become a great musician. He must open his heart to permit love to flow out as he sends it forth to enfold the world. The fountains of love increase as love flows forth. Love contains the full power of healing and of renewing. Love is of God and it is truly the Fruit of the Tree of Life as it is shed forth through the hearts of the children of men!” (ibid. pp9-10)

The document closes with these simple words.

After the Silence those present went quietly in two’s and three’s into Liebie’s room to give her their love and greeting.
She welcomed them with a smile and a few words to each. An atmosphere of pure gentleness seemed all pervasive.
Anthony spoke for all when he summed up the glory of the occasion in four words; “Joy remains the Key”.

Liebie died on the 5th December 1966. Three days later she was buried. Peter records

“Liebie Pugh was dying of cancer, but only two or three people knew. She was in physical agony but seemed able to rise above all the pain – a true demonstration of the ‘Risen Thinking’ she had so strongly proclaimed. On an inner level Eileen had been very aware of Liebie’s condition for some months; … Liebie had dictated to Richard Grave a message from the “All Knowing One” saying that December the 5th 1966 would complete Liebie’s ‘earth function’. (In Perfect Timing, p. 266)

“I Rise again”, Liebie Limitless Love, records the event.

On the same night as her passing Liebie came into the sitting room of her flat where seven of us were keeping vigil, and with a joy and excitement that were infectious said: “Tell them I am away, I am away. ” ‘We also received the words-“The pain is finished and the power is being released.” ….

On December 8th at the Lytham Park Crematorium the Master’s earth entity was transformed for ever. To the rich Amen Chorus from the Messiah we acknowledged the meaning of the words “So be it” while Liebie’s body was carried into the Chapel by Harry Billington, Anthony Brooke, Peter Caddy, Fred Denny, Richard Grave and Jim Hutchings. The rest of us followed behind and quietly took our places in the pews.”

Shortly after the Silence and during the commencement of the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus, ROC (Ogilvie Crombie) was given a vision of the ethereal figure of Liebie rising from her temporary wooden encasement, dressed in white and with a single rose, looking radiantly beautiful.

Then the figure turned into Limitless Love.

We were filled with a unique happiness, with a surging triumphant joy reflected back to us. ….
As we walked out into the sweet open air, there awaited us in all its meaning of hope and promise a perfect rainbow, arched in the sky for all to see. It seemed to set the seal on the Master’s words, words that upheld Liebie through the years.

“MY PLAN IS ABSOLUTE.
