HOW FINDHORN FLOWER ESSENCES BEGAN

Findhorn Flower Essences was started in 1993. It was not a conscious decision to start a line of essences, but grew organically from a personal need for remedies to help me make the adjustment of uprooting my family and moving to the other side of the world, and the incredible upheaval that followed. Not until doing Dorothy Maclean’s workshop towards the end of that first year did the penny drop. She told me she always knew flower essences would be made at Findhorn. “Why not you?” she asked. By then there were a dozen essences, the 13th followed in February, 1994.

Making the snowdrop essence coincided with Peter Caddy’s death (it is helpful for grief). This is an example of how various essences were conceived — in relation to a need, and guided by intuition, and the modes of ‘receiving’ promulgated by our three founders. Making flower essences has led me into a deep connection with Nature and the intelligence informing the nature kingdom. Sitting in meditation before a flowering plant, I ask for guidance as to the qualities expressed by that plant and the properties that would be of healing benefit for humanity.

Over the succeeding 20 years the range has expanded to 48 flower, five element (or environmental) and seven gem essences.

The business has now been operating out of Cullerne House for 10 years and has a staff of six.
