About Jess Abrams
I am a Musician, Educator and Community Music Practitioner. I sing mostly jazz, and work mostly with young people. I teach music students about becoming facilitators and more!Came to the Findhorn Foundation Community: 1987-90 and then 94-97
Left the Findhorn Foundation Community: 1997
Areas of involvement with the Findhorn Foundation Community: I arrived at 19 to visit my mother Rachel who was exploring the Foundation herself. I felt I'd 'landed' - found a place I could be me. I subsequently joined the Foundation hoodlums ;-) Just the wonderful Foundation teens - Damien, Kim-Ellen, Chris, Dave, Shirley and of course our 'adult' Allan Howard.
Community leadership: Focaliser of the Youth Project in both of my membership stays; first at Cluny 88-90 and then at the Park in the 95-97. I also worked with Liza in Ecologia.
Experience in the community affected your work in the world: The experience and training from living in the Foundation in such a formative time in my life plays out in all my work. I am an Educator, Musician and Community Music Practitioner - most often working with young people who lived through challenging experiences in their lives. Regardless of whether on the stage, in my classroom or with young people in communities, .skills developed in the Foundation are ever present. I also was lucky enough to start singing in the Universal Hall and play with some wonderful musicians and this really helped me to develop as a singer. The Foundation was a genuine influence on who I am and how I work today.
