About Janice Shearer
A native north-easter, I fell in love with Cluny from my first day, and with Work as Love in action. Homecare came naturally - a form of meditation! I love being in nature, in Spirit, creating .Came to the Findhorn Foundation Community: I grew up in the north-east and had visited the community informally over the years; I finally was able to join an Experience Week in 2010, much later, to start my journey through work programmes and volunteering. As soon as I entered Cluny, it felt like the home of my heart - my focaliser said it seemed like I had come home. I volunteered in the kitchen for some months, did work weeks in spring clean and Cullerne, and then became a LEAP co-worker in Homecare. After a while away due to financial and family concerns, I joined the Newbold Community as Homecare Focaliser and was there until late 2013. later, I volunteered again in Cluny.
Left the Findhorn Foundation Community: I am still in the area, still taking an interest.
Areas of involvement with the Findhorn Foundation Community: I am a strong believer in the idea of 'Work is love in action'; that and inner listening were the main elements drawing me to the community and I was very happy always to be in the experiential learning areas, specifically Homecare and I love scrubbing pots in the kitchen! I also have done my share of weeding, digging, and harvesting! I used to sing in Taize every day and also loved Harmonic Temple in Cluny Sanctuary. I manly meditated in the wonderful grounds of Cluny, the panorama was a favourite of mine at daybreak; I also performed qigong everyday overlooking the golf course - such energy the gardens of Cluny were embued with! I loved doing flower holders for candles. My work in Newbold was similar, It was the small loving details I loved - drawing little notices for guests to colour which then became the signs in the bathrooms, making lavender bags with them....I also was an assistant editor on the 50th Birthday Book, which was fascinating, hearing from people all over the world. I love all of the arts. My most favourite time in all of this was the Christ Consciousness Conference, which was profoundly moving and meaningful for me
Experience in the community affected your work in the world: I carry the beliefs with me and try to live them, I also am open to discussing being in the Findhorn Foundation community with local friends and relatives, because there is still a great deal of resistance to it in many ways in the wider north-east community. It has been an odd experience at times, but I hope I have opened some minds.
