Listening to the Land

You are the Dragon standing between
Heaven and Earth.
An oil rig between the toes of one foot,
the Bay curved by the instep of the other.
It has been said the glow of your eyes
is seen as a green glitter
emanating from the North.
Your breath,
fiercely tender so as not to disrupt
the geese’s flight path.
Your heartbeat the drum
that calls us to, Come, and Be.
Beneath your belly
the dunes keep soft the place of knowing.
The peninsular length of your tail ends
in a barbed tip
which performed manoeuvers with fighter
jets,
and now, after fifty years,
plays freely with quieted tail winds. You are the Dragon standing between
Heaven and Earth.
Still, present.
