Editor’s Note: On one of David’s return visits to Findhorn in 1991, Roger Doudna filmed this interview with as part of a series called “Visionary Voices”.

In the interview they discuss spirituality, ecology, and the human relationship with the planet.

Herewith a brief summary:

Spirituality as a way of engaging with the world and the cosmos as a whole. It involves recognising the inherent spirit or interiority in all things and fostering a connection with it. This goes beyond religion, which David considers a more specific slice of spirituality focused on worship and particular cultural practices. He prefers a more participatory model of individuality, where we understand ourselves as parts of a larger whole.

Ecology as a model for understanding spirituality: just as in an ecological system, we cannot be mere observers in spirituality. We have to participate and be part of the system to truly understand it. Spirituality can provide a deeper meaning and motivation for environmental action and support the Green Movement in a positive way.

Transformation – spirituality is inherently transformative, even if the transformations are subtle. It can heighten our appreciation for the world and our place in it.

In short, spirituality is a way to reconnect with ourselves, the planet, and all living things. It’s about fostering a sense of participation and responsibility within a larger ecological web.
