As Sir George mentioned the eternal light, we’re going to close this evening with a little dedication ceremony of a small lamp that we have placed in the downstairs foyer. And I’ll explain to you how we’re going to do that shortly. But what I would like to do first is ask Sir George to tell you just briefly, if you can, Sir George, about the lamplighter project. Can you? Right. Two or three minutes, three or four minutes.

That’s it. I’ll keep it into that. The lamplighter movement. You have in your sanctuary an ever-burning little amber light. But we suddenly realised, of course, that there ought to be one here.

Now, this movement was born in 1964. It had a very interesting background. Our friend now passed on, Wellesley Tudor Pole, one of the great seers of our time, during the war got an inner guidance that during the most terrible days of the war when England was threatened with invasion in 1940, the time of Dunkirk and what followed, that we could use the silent minute in the middle of the striking of Big Ben at 9 o’clock at night on the BBC, that we could get people all over the world to pray in that minute of silence.

The thing took off, through his immense work in getting the impetus going, the King and Winston Churchill agreed to the idea. And after the war they found a secret, top-secret missive to Hitler to try to explain to him why they failed to conquer England. And it included the statement that the English had some form of secret weapon, which we couldn’t fathom but we know was connected with the striking of Big Ben. Isn’t that interesting?

For 20 years this ran, and then the BBC stopped it, at which point Tudor Pole got another, what he said, imperative request from the higher worlds, that light was to follow, to replace sound. And what they wanted was that we should light little, dedicated, ever-burning lamps, amber in colour, Ideally, in an upper room shining out, to show that here was a house where meditation and prayer were going up, and they needed to be dedicated with intent. And the point being, though the thing was very small, that they,  on the higher plane could take the dedicated intent of the lamplighter, and on the etheric plane magnify it, and so up and up and up, and that if we would start doing this widely over the world, it would assist the higher worlds really in the flooding of light into this planet.

And so, as he didn’t want to start it again, he passed it on to me, and we lit the first light on Midsummer in 1964. I don’t know how many people belong to the Lamplighter movement now. There’s no membership, no obligation, but though we know about 500 on our mailing list, there will be many more about the world who have not written into us. So this movement goes on spreading.

The amber light is, of course, a symbol. You realise that the light of the sun, the wonderful white golden light of the sun, shining through obscurity manifests on the amber range of colours. So it’s really a symbol of the spiritual sun shining through the obscurity of the world.

I’m delighted that the decision has been taken that in this great building [the Universal hall] we should light a light, so we’re going to dedicate it now.

We kindle this little light on the earth plane.
I dedicate it to the service of the Spirit.
I guard and dedicate this light, this flame, as a living symbol and an act of faith in the reality of the powers of the light.
May the beings of the higher world see this flame and kindle its counterpart on the ethereal plane.
May this ethereal light be a channel for the inflow of the healing powers of the Spirit.
May the love of Christ permeate this building and protect it, warming the hearts and enlightening the understanding of all who live in it or enter it.
May the being whom we know as Michael, standard bearer of the Christ, wielder of the sword of light, use this offering, linking it with all those who have lit the light.
May peace and healing spread through the world and the regions of the borderland.

And it ends with the little note that has been added. And if we all just lit one little light, imagine what a brighter place this world would be.

Thank you so much. And here’s the way.

You can hang that up again. The deed is done. This place glows even more than it did before. which is saying quite a lot.

There are some pamphlets on the lamp lighter movement if you want to get some. […] There is a brief summary of the story with the prayer on the back of it.

The following is an earlier recording where Sir George asks Peter to share about it, the context is not known to us.

Peter, may I say a short word about the lamplighters? That’d be good.

In our sanctuary here and at Cluny, there is an amber light burning perpetually in the centre of the chapel, of the sanctuary, as you will have noticed. Now this is part of what is called the Lamplighter Movement. And it’s of interest just to know this very brief history.

During the war in the times of great peril in 1940, the great adept, Tudor Pole, approached the Prime Minister and the King with the idea of the Big Ben silent minute, using that time when Big Ben was striking at nine o’clock on BBC, on radio, to go into the silence and pray for the protection of Britain. The idea was taken up. Millions of people joined in this. Freedom-loving people.

After the war, there is record that a top secret Nazi document was found to Hitler concerning why they failed to invade England. And one point was that the English had some form of secret weapon that the Germans could never fathom. but knew it was somehow connected with the striking of Big Ben.

What wonderful indication this is what force prayer can be. It’s going to be very important in the future. Now, that ran on until 21 years, until ’64, ’63, and then the BBC decided to drop the striking of Big Ben. Tudor Pole then wrote to me saying that he had had an imperative request, from above, that light should now replace sound. And what they up there wanted, was the lighting of little amber lights, dedicated with deliberate intent and burning perpetually in sanctuaries or in houses, ideally in upper rooms. And that if we would do this, they would, on the next plane, light a corresponding etheric light.

The very interesting point is that our initiative, we’ve stressed this before, is always important and necessary and helpful to them, because we have got free will. Therefore, if we took the initiative of lighting the little light, this applies to what Peter described as the little ceremonies of pilgrimage and the like, when we do these with the right intent. The invisible world would respond, and enlarge it, and increase the music, increase the purity, increase the light. Well, they would light on the ethereal plane another light, a greater light, which would be picked up on higher and higher planes, like a sort of lighthouse.

We lit the first lamp at my college, Attingham, in 1964, on Midsummer Day, and the movement has spread and still goes on. It’s impossible to tell how wide it is because, of course, the idea has gone on and people have gone on lighting them. But also to realise that on the invisible plane, it’s also a real factor and important.

And you have one more lit to the top of the, of this main road here, just behind where the great log is at the top caravan.

Now, it looks to us as if another phase has been reached. That there is the same sort of imperative request, that the light centres should be more consciously linked. A grid, or network of light centres should be more deliberately, and consciously, with intent, linked up. by prayer, by invocation, by pilgrimage, by going between the places, and by the discovering of them, and consciously ending them.

Peter himself has received such an impression, wrote to me about it just at the time when I was sending out another letter to the lamplighters, bearing out the same kind of thing. From various sources, the indications have come in that it is urgent. That the light centres should be a strongly linked grid or network against the times of change that are coming. My feeling in this is that what is going to what could happen is that they will be used to the flooding of light into Britain.

The great sensitive Grace Cooke in the book that Peter has mentioned earlier, The Light in Britain, describes her journey around the the great centres like Avebury and Stonehenge, and realising with her inner vision, being shown how they were used, and how they were great light temples into which spiritual light was impregnated, was poured and stored underneath. And of course it’s eternal.

And we now link the picture of the these centres and the ley lines as part of a primeval grid of earth energies and light. I’ve had the image that, can you go up above the country and look down upon it and see the map of all these centres, large and small, over the country, linked by the ley lines, which are capable of carrying the earth energy or the light, to link up between the centres.

Then over the top of it, overlay, you know how you can make a perspex map laid on the top of another map, lay one of the Christian centres, the churches, the cathedrals, the monasteries, and we would find how frequently they actually are sighted on crossing points of ley lines. This is the fascinating thing, because the same knowledge had led the early people to choose such a spot, because they could pray and meditate and pick up the energies, still held good for the later Christian ones coming. They rightly overlay.

Overlay then another perspex map, which includes the modern centres, Findhorn and the White Eagle Lodge, and the like, and also the little lights of the lamplighter movement over the country, and we should constantly find that they landed on the same points. supporting it. Add to these the holy mountains, which are very significant and powerful points of stored energy. Michael’s mountain, all the others, the Beacons, a great many others in the country. And add to it these temples. See how strong this grid is.

My impression, speculatively, is that the moment is going to come of a building up of great tension in the world, when light is going to need to flood in with redemptive force. And it’ll almost be as if a cosmic switch is pulled, and once the charge is let loose. And what it’ll use is the network of the light centres and the people concerned with them, with the change of consciousness coming. And I think what it means, is that we are being called on, more consciously, to establish the grid, link it up properly, see that its joints are correct, see that it’s really made as conscious as possible, see where it’s possible these points are activated and the old ones that are waiting to be found are brought into activation.

Peter was with me on one of the new holy mountains we discovered called Skirrid in Wales, which has immense strength and power in it, another Michael’s Mount.

And so, what we’re doing in trying to become conscious of these things, may prove to be part of a very big operation for the in-flooding of active light, spiritual light, into the country.

This much I wanted to say, so that, because being in such a centre as this, it’s important that you know and see that the interest in ley lines, which is so great now, is part of something much, much bigger, and is very relevant to the kind of thing that we’re all working out and discovering, and then the task we have to play when the crisis of darkness and light comes up in a few years’ time.
