This is a complete list of periodical Findhorn Community magazines, newsletters and other publications, distributed both within and beyond the Community.
- GOD TOLD ME/GOD SPOKE TO ME (July 1966-Jan 1967)
8 issues in total, duplicated in near-A4 size, on off-white paper with blue lettering, and stapled, these were monthly selections of Eileen’s guidance, sent to the Community’s early network of friends & supporters. First issue, God Told Me – March 1966, containing March’s guidance, was published in July. From 2nd issue title was changed to God Spoke To Me. From 3rd issue a subtitle The New Dispensation was added. April/May and final November/December issues were combined editions. These were not the same as the four God Spoke To Me booklets published during 1967-8. (For further information see The Story of God Spoke To Me.) - FINDHORN NEWS (March 1969-Sept 1974)
A5 size card-covered printed booklet, published irregularly 1969-72, and roughly quarterly 1973-74. 12 issues in total, with up to 60 pages per issue, containing articles, news, Eileen’s guidance, details of new members & visitors, photographs, poetry, and, from 1972, View From The Centre articles by Peter Caddy. Issues from June 1973 had illustrated colour covers. Note: the booklet Transformation Of Findhorn (see Books) filled the gap between the Aug 1971 and Sept 1972 issues of Findhorn News.
- GOD’S WORD THROUGH ELIXIR (Jan 1970-Sept 1971)
21 near-A4 sized, printed, card-covered monthly volumes of Eileen’s guidance, as read in Sanctuary each morning. Each issue also contained accounts of visions received by Eileen. Distributed to the Community’s network of supporters, and available to the public by mail order, these stopped when Eileen ceased to receive guidance for the Community in October 1971. Some double editions, collecting 2 months previously issued singly, were also published; for example January-February and March-April 1970. The cover of one issue is shown in Photo Gallery 2.
- WEEKLY NEWS (1972-75)
The Community’s first internal publication, begun 26th May 1972, and photocopied in A4 size. A forerunner of Sharing Paper & Rainbow Bridge. First editor: Roger Collis.
- EXPRESSIONS (1973-74)
Brightly coloured booklet, published irregularly in various shapes & sizes, containing drawings, poetry and articles. Initiated by Gair Hemphill and Shoshana Tembeck, with contributions from many Community members, and distributed within the Community as a free-spirited artistic enterprise. At least 3 issues. This impulse expanded into One Earth (see below), issue 1 of which featured an artistic section called Expression (later changed to Explorations).
- OPEN LETTER (1974-79)
8-12 page A4 size bi-monthly printed newsletter sent to global network of friends, supporters & ex-members, containing news, interviews, photos, articles and lists of new members. This and One Earth replaced Findhorn News; One Earth developing the areas of educational writing and arts, Open Letter continuing the distribution of Community news. Main editors: Rue Wallace (now Haas), David Wilkinson, Liza Stern (now Hollingshead). Art direction by David Nez and Aidan Meehan. First issue Dec 1974. An extra un-numbered edition celebrating the purchase of Cluny Hill Hotel in 1975 was published between issues 7 & 8 (see Pamphlets & Brochures). Final issue, no. 30 (Nov 1979), had a complete change of design and editorial style, and was the prototype of Image magazine (see below).
- SHARING PAPER (1975-78)
Photocopied A4 size weekly Community journal. Successor of Weekly News and
predecessor of today’s Rainbow Bridge.
- ONE EARTH (First version, 1976-79)
7 issues in square card-covered book form, containing substantial articles, interviews, lecture transcripts, poetry, art and photography. A merging of the educational article impulse developed during the last half-dozen issues of Findhorn News, and the artistic material in Expressions. Published roughly twice a year, priced £1.25 except Issue 7, £1.50. (See Books section for details of individual issues, editors and writers). The covers of all 7 issues are shown in Photo Gallery 2.
- TOWARDS THE ONE LIGHT (1977-84)
8 page A4 size photocopied bi-monthly journal, with news about current and former members, distributed among same. First editor: Liza Stern. Approximately 45 issues.
- FAMILY LETTER TAPES (1977-9)
Series of approx. 28 cassettes containing Community news in audio form, sent to friends and ex-members. Titled variously Family Letter, Family Tape, Open Letter and Family Talk. First edition Jan 1977, with the voices of Peter Caddy and Vance Martin. Published monthly during 1977. Issues during 1978-9 usually published monthly, sometimes bi-monthly.
- VIDEO LETTERS (1978-9)
Series of approximately 7 videos, produced between April 1978 and April 1979, containing Community news, footage and skits, and sent to sister communities of Auroville (India), Arcosanti (USA) and Another Place (USA). Funded by The Hexiad Project, which worked to link communities round the world. - RAINBOW BRIDGE (1978-the present)
Photocopied weekly community magazine, containing news, announcements of events, minutes of meetings, writings and personal views, small ads etc. Has been published in A5 size for many years, but early issues were A4.
- GREAT BEAR (1979)
40 page “Journal of the New Astrology and the Western Mysteries” edited by Mark Lerner. Other writers included Nick Rose and Vance Martin. One issue published from Findhorn; publication continued after Mark Lerner’s relocation to the USA.
- ONE EARTH NETWORK (1979-1990)
Quarterly A5 size booklet distributed to Findhorn Resource People round the world, containing news of members and gatherings. Published variously from Luxembourg, Germany and Findhorn. Approximately 45 issues.
- IMAGE (1980)
A4 size printed commercial magazine. Prototype of subsequent incarnation of One Earth.
3 issues. Editorials by Donald Keys.
- ONE EARTH (Second version, 1980-90)
A4 size printed commercial magazine of articles, poetry, photography, reviews & Community reports. Early issues include editorials by David Spangler. 49 issues in total to Volume 9, issue 4 (Spring 1990). Published bi-monthly, then quarterly for Volumes 8 and 9. Subtitled The Findhorn Foundation Magazine.
- NEWBOLD HOUSE JOURNAL (1980-88)
Annual newsletter from the sister community at Newbold House, Forres, distributed to guests and visitors, containing news, articles, poetry and workshop information. All issues A5 except 1982 edition, A4, which was titled Newbold’s Bridge.
- FINDHORN FAMILY NEWS (1985-88)
A4 size photocopied quarterly journal, containing Community news and news and letters from former members. Many issues include column by Eileen Caddy. Successor to Towards The One Light. Edited by Harley Miller.
- OPEN FORUM (1987-88)
A4 size printed Community newsletter, organ of the late 1980’s Open Forum organisation (precursor of today’s NFA). 5 issues. First two issues priced 25p, subsequent issues free. Started bi-monthly, finished monthly.
- MORAY FIRTH OBSERVER (1988)
Free weekly tabloid-sized newspaper of 24-48 pages produced and published by Community member Tim Barrable. Contained news from surrounding area of Scotland as well as Findhorn Community news. Roughly 24 issues, with print runs of up to 35,000 copies.
- OUTREACH JOURNAL (1988-89)
Quarterly A4 printed newsletter containing Community news sent to Findhorn Fellows and Resource People. Predecessor of Connections and Network News. Edited by Harley Miller.
- ANGELS & MORTALS (1989-90)
Four-page, A4 size, subtitled Findhorn Foundation Newsletter. Distributed twice-yearly to the Foundation’s mailing list. Contained Community news and articles. 3 issues, each in a different colour. Edited by Amanda Haworth.
- CONNECTIONS (1989-94)
Quarterly A4 printed newsletter sent to Fellows and Resource People, containing Foundation & Community news. Final issue was a tribute to Peter Caddy.
- ONE EARTH (Third version, 1990-96)
A4 size printed commercial magazine, continuing where previous version left off, and with similar content. Published and edited quarterly by “Associates” of the Foundation (now defunct category of Community membership), subtitled The Findhorn Foundation & Community Magazine. Full colour covers in beige border. 21 issues from Number 01 (Autumn 1990).
- TREES FOR LIFE NEWS (1991-96)
A4 size newsletter of Trees For Life, edited by TFL founder Alan Watson Featherstone, containing photos, project news, nature articles. Published twice-yearly. Title changed in 1997 to Caledonia Wild ! (see below)
- THE GOLDEN VOICE (1991-92)
A5 size photocopied magazine of the “Open Community” of non-Foundation members within the wider Findhorn Foundation Community. Around 6 issues. Edited by Chryss Alexander.
- FRIENDS OF THE FINDHORN FOUNDATION NEWSLETTER (1991-94)
A5 size photocopied newsletter, sent quarterly to the Foundation’s “Friends” Network, containing news and articles from Findhorn. Edited by Kay Kay. 12 issues.
- NETWORK NEWS (1994-present)
Quarterly A4 size printed magazine with Community news, articles and poetry, sent to Friends, Stewards, RPs, workshop guests and Fellows. Also sold in the Pheonix Shop. Edited by Eva Ward 1994-96, by Michael Hawkins from 1996-2005, and since 2005 by Mattie Porte.
- GENESIS (1997-98)
A4 size printed magazine linking the Community with Findhorn Village and RAF Kinloss. First published monthly, then quarterly, with articles, local history and news. 34 issues, some with colour covers. Edited by Jeremy Slocombe.
- CALEDONIA WILD ! (1997-present)
Thrice-yearly, A4 size Trees For Life magazine with photos, nature articles and news of TFL projects. Full colour glossy covers since Summer 2003 edition. Successor to Trees For Life News. Editor : Alan Watson Featherstone.
- EKO NEWS (2000-01)
Free news bulletin of the Pheonix Stores, published irregularly. Roughly 30 issues, the first two titled Eko Resource. Early issues large A3 size with full colour glossy covers, others A4 size and black and white. Edited by David Hoyle.
- THE FOOL (2003)
A4 size magazine subtitled The Unofficial Voice Of The Findhorn Community, published monthly. 40 pages containing articles, photos and Community views. Full colour covers. Edited, designed and published by David Gregson. 3 issues only were published.
- MANIFESTING LIGHT (2004-present) Quarterly fundraising magazine, published via email only by the Foundation, containing short articles about various Foundation and Community projects. Edited by John Abdey.
