This video spans the decades – from 1980 when I took some of the pictures to 2024 when I recorded the music and finally put it together.
When I arrived to live in the Community, back in September 1979, new members were encouraged to stay fully immersed in the Community for a good long while before taking time away.
My first short trip away was to the Orkney islands in June 1980, where sights like brochs, cairns and standing stones all became imbued with the same iconic and transcendental quality as everything at Findhorn – – everything became mythic.
The pictures in this music video, recorded April 2024, combine grainy Agfachrome slides from that 1980 visit, with digipix from a subsequent visit in 2017 – – as well as some slides of Iona in 1981, including Traigh Bhan, at the very end. The song was written in the early 1990’s, based on the earlier visit, including an undercooked breakfast at the B&B in Stromness, and arriving on the island of Rousay after a wedding the night before, such that everyone on the island was hungover. Coincidentally, Tepee John, another Findhorn regular, is to be seen on the boat as it returned to the Mainland Orkney with the wedding musicians.
Enjoy!
