In the Summer of 1965 …

The group was the Universal Link, founded by Liebie Pugh and inspired by a series of prophetic messages received from a spiritual being known as the All-Knowing One (sometimes called ‘Limitless Love and Truth’).

We arrived at St Annes late the next day and took Eileen Keck to visit Liebie Pugh at her home in St George’s Square. We intended to leave Eileen there, but at the last moment decided to stay and meet Liebie also. First, however, we had to confront a guardian on the gate: Joan Hartnell-Beavis, Liebie’s secretary and treasurer, who lived in the flat next door and was obviously devoted to Liebie. When we arrived she said that Liebie was quite tired and that it was long past her meal time; we could only have an appointment the next day. I replied that we had to go to Glastonbury in the morning and Joanie, as we came to know her, relented. We later discovered that Liebie rarely saw anyone without an appointment, for she was in great demand: people came from all over the world to see her.

Liebie Pugh was a remarkable woman. She had an unusual face, like a Tibetan’s, and her features seemed neither male nor female, neither oriental nor occidental, but had elements of all; her skin was slightly yellow with the most wrinkles I have ever seen in a single face. She took my hands, and the first words she said were, ‘St. Germain’ — she recognised that I had a strong link with the Master of the Seventh Ray. I realised that we were in the presence of somebody who had an extraordinary effect on people — when she took Naomi’s hands, for example, Naomi immediately went into a trance!

Although Liebie Pugh had been a member of the Catholic Church for two years and had written several Catholic booklets on religious matters, she had travelled along or knew of most spiritual paths and seemed to me to embody ‘Limitless Love and Truth’. She looked only for the best in everybody and everything and drew it forth. With Liebie everything had to be done perfectly, effortlessly and with love. Her ability to see the truth was disconcerting. The name of her group, the Universal Link, was apt: her approach to spirituality was universal, embracing the truths of all religions, and she knew more spiritually inclined groups and individuals than anybody I had met, linking many of them with a regular newsletter.

We left St Anne’s on the following day, knowing that we would see Liebie and Joanie again. (In fact St Anne’s was to become a regular staging post on my journeys to and from England.)

———

We called at St Anne’s on the way and were further inspired by Liebie, who had always refused to see the dark. She said that if you think ‘gloom and doom’ then you will attract them; instead she stressed the importance of positivity, ‘Risen Thinking’ and ‘Risen Being’.

———

Liebie Pugh was dying of cancer, but only two or three people knew. She was in physical agony but seemed able to rise above all the pain — a true demonstration of the ‘Risen Thinking’ she had so strongly proclaimed. On an inner level Eileen had been very aware of Liebie’s condition for some months; as early as January, Liebie herself had dictated to Richard Graves a message from the ‘All Knowing One’ saying that 5 December 1966 would complete Liebie’s ‘Earth function’.

Liebie refused to have a doctor, to take any drugs to stop the pain, or to go to a hospital; she was looked after by Joanie, but it was a great strain, so arrangements were made to move her into a hospital on 5 December. There was a ‘Propinquity meeting’ — a gathering of those closest to the Universal Link — that had been already planned at St Annes for the day before, and Eileen received,

Nothing will be allowed to stop this meeting on the fourth.
It is absolutely vital that it takes place. Only those who are
very close and are completely dedicated will be able to attend.

Dorothy, Roc and I travelled down two days before the meeting itself. When we arrived we learned that Liebie had spent her first day in bed and, much to my surprise, she wished to see me. She was very alive and mentally alert. On the same day, Merta Mary Parkinson arrived from the United States of America; having read about the previous session at St Anne’s, in which the Green and Magenta Rays were blended, she turned up wearing a green and magenta coat, a magenta dress, stole, shoes, and even huge magenta earrings. Roc shuddered but like me could see the humour in it.

At the meeting on the following day, Merta Mary was inspired to suggest that all thirty-two of those attending celebrate the occasion with a champagne dinner party. She was an even greater proponent of positive thinking than I — it seemed impossible to be able to organize such a banquet at a seaside resort in mid-winter on a Sunday afternoon. But I knew that if it was in the Plan, all would work out perfectly. We saw the manager of the Hotel Majestic and he agreed to close the cocktail bar for our party: Roc sat at the head of the table, Liebie was toasted with pink champagne, and we had a magnificent five-course dinner with sparkling, magenta-coloured burgundy. It was just the sort of experience that Liebie would thoroughly support, to celebrate her release from all the physical suffering of this Earth plane to the realms of Light.

Eileen, though still at Findhorn, was very much in touch with what was happening at St Annes. She received,

This meeting will be like turning over a page of the Book of
Life. The page has been completed and now a new and glorious
page will present itself. Tremendous changes are taking place
here at this Magnetic Centre, Findhorn. A new power is being
transferred here, and because of this the work will advance
by leaps and bounds. And the whole nature of the work will
change. Be ready for these changes.

On 4 December, Eileen received,

Today is a day of days. There will be a tremendous release
of power this day. So be ready to receive it and absorb it. Re-
member this, when outwardly things seem to be at their worst.

At this time Eileen was experiencing, though, of course, to a lesser extent, the pain and suffering that Liebie was going through. She received,

Liebie’s outer body is disintegrating at a great speed. Very
soon there will be but a very small portion of it in existence. The
less there is on the physical, the greater the spiritual ascent,
until there is nothing of the physical left and all is spirit. This
gathering at this time is to help hasten this. The greater the
power which is gathered together, and which is realized, the
quicker it will come about. Accept the fact that the personality is
non-existent now. She is more out of the body than in it, and the
time is at hand when she will no longer be able to return to this
body, but will remain in the spirit. This will be a time of great
rejoicing, for all those who are aware of what is happening.

The day after the banquet everyone left, except for seven of us — true to a vision Eileen had seen earlier of seven people taking Liebie across dark and turbulent waters into glorious Light. She was left in the Light, and the group came back rejoicing. These were Anthony Brooke in the bow navigating, with me steering; Kathleen Fleming with Liebie’s head on her lap, Roc at her feet, and Monica Parish, Molly Thompson, and Joanie singing songs of praise. With the exception of Dorothy — who appeared to be deputizing for Molly — these seven in the vision were those with Liebie at this time.

As Liebie was to go into the hospital the next day, Anthony suggested that we spend the night in vigil in Liebie’s sitting room, adjoining her bedroom. She was delighted with this and saw each one of us for a final word: to me she confided the name of a wealthy benefactor of the Universal Link and suggested I get in touch with him. (1) She went into a deep sleep and passed away at 11.30 pm. The doctor, undertaker, nurse and ambulance quickly arrived, and she was out of the house by midnight.

(1) I later followed this advice and the benefactor subsequently made many donations to our community
