Dorothy’s Spiritual Path

Dorothy’s first contact with the God Within came at a time when the most spiritual approach she could take in a certain situation meant giving up what she loved most – her husband. Initially she dithered, but she tried so hard to become sufficiently loving to take the actions required that it led to a spontaneous, direct experience of divine love, of knowing herself to be a part of a loving universe. The experience totally changed her, even, as her friends observed the next day, changing her voice. It was no longer a matter of believing that the essence of all life, the essence of God, was love; now it was a matter of knowing that to be so.

A recurring injunction to Stop, listen and write led her to start connecting three times a day with that love. That practice continued for nearly 10 years before the devic connection began. Dorothy neither heard nor saw anything. She entered into an experience and then had to clothe the exchange with words. Her constant companions in those times of silence were her shorthand notebook, a pencil and a thesaurus. Her guidance reflects a relationship with the God Within that is loving, humorous and infinitely patient. Recurring throughout them is a thread encouraging her to open to new ideas and perspectives, to be willing to receive the truth of reality and to set aside the limitations of conventional thinking and behaviour. The most repeated advice was to keep coming closer to this inner source, thus continually expanding into love.

Years of daily practice honed her connection and forged an absolute faith in the veracity of what she received. In spring 1963 she was told in meditation that she had a job to do with nature.
